Therapy FAQs

Common questions

It’s natural to have questions before starting therapy. Here are some answers to help you feel more at ease.

  • I charge £60 per session, though our 1st session together is offered at the reduced fee of £30. This is an opportunity for you to see what it might be like to work with me. Concessionary rates are sometimes available. Please ask. I am happy to answer any initial questions you have in a free 15 minute introductory call.

  • Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly on the same day and at the same time. Fortnightly sessions are sometimes available.

  • If you are not able to attend a session I ask for at least 5 days notice of cancellation to avoid my full session fee being charged. I will try and offer you an alternative time, if this is what you’d like. Should I need to cancel a session, I will give you as much notice as I can and you will not be charged.

  • I ask you to pay on the day in cash or by bank transfer by the end of the day of the session.

  • Some clients worry they won’t know what to say, especially at the start. If that happens, we can begin by noticing what’s coming up for you in the moment, this often helps things unfold naturally. Some clients worry they might become upset. It’s completely okay to cry during a session and tears can actually be a meaningful part of the process. I won’t ask you to hold tears back. You’re welcome to take all the time you need to express how you’re feeling. I’ll be there to support you.

  • Everything you share in our sessions is treated as strictly confidential. The only exception would be if I believed you or someone else might be at risk of harm or not safe or for reasons connected with criminal activity. I work with a supervisor to help ensure my practice is safe, ethical, and effective, but I do not share any information with them that could identify you. The question of confidentiality is dealt with in more detail in my Privacy Statement.

  • Though I’m not able to offer crisis support, you don’t have to face things alone. There are services available that can help right now. If you are in crisis and need immediate help you can contact

NHS 111, the emergency services (on 999), the Samaritans (24-hour helpline on freephone 116 123/SMS - text SHOUT to 85258) and Sussex Mental Healthline (24-hour helpline on freephone 0800 030 9500)
